Dhaka University (DU) tops the list of desired universities in Bangladesh. Established in 1921, this university is the pinnacle of tertiary education in the country. DU Admission Requirements

Students who have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or equivalent exam in 2023 can apply. The students must have completed the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam within the years 2018–2021.

The eligibility or requirement for different units of Dhaka University is different. The requirements for the units of DU admission are given below:

 

DU Admission: DU A Unit (Science Faculty)

Students passing the Science division in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) as well as Alim of Madrasah Board can apply to DU A unit if the sum of their GPAs in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams (including 4th subject) is at least 8.00. But individually, none of the GPAs can go below 3.50. Students passing the Humanities or Business division in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) can apply if the sum of their GPAs in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams (including 4th subject) is at least 7.50. But individually, none of the GPAs can go below 3.00. English Medium students should have passed at least 2 subjects in A levels and 5 subjects in O levels with at least 2 As, 3 Bs, 2 Cs, and no Ds.

DU Admission: DU C Unit (Business Studies Faculty)

Students passing the Science division in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) as well as Alim of Madrasah Board can apply to DU A unit if the sum of their GPAs in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams (including 4th subject) is at least 8.00. But individually, none of the GPAs can go below 3.50. Students passing the Humanities or Business division in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) can apply if the sum of their GPAs in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams (including 4th subject) is at least 7.50. But individually, none of the GPAs can go below 3.00. Students from the Science Division must have mathematics or statistics in their HSC exam and must have at least a 3.00 GPA in it.

Students from the Humanities Division must have Economics or Statistics in their HSC exam and must have at least a 3.00 GPA in that subject. Students with a Diploma in Business Studies and a Diploma in Commerce and Business Management can also apply if they have the subject Accounting and at least a B grade (Grade Point 3.00) in that subject. English Medium students should have passed at least 2 subjects in A levels and 5 subjects in O levels with at least 1 A, 4 Bs, and 3 Cs. Students must have either Maths, Economics, Accounting, or Business Studies in their A Levels to sit for this unit.

DU Admission: DU F Unit (Fine Arts Faculty)

Students passing the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or equivalent exam can apply to the DU F unit if the sum of their GPAs in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams (including the 4th subject) is at least 6.50. But individually none of the GPAs can go below 3.00. English Medium students should have passed at least 2 subjects in A levels and 5 subjects in O levels with at least 4 Bs and 3 Cs.

Marks Distribution of the DU Admission Test:

From the 2019–20 session, Dhaka University has introduced a written examination alongside the Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) exam. 20 marks will be allocated based on the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams. The written exam will carry 40 marks, while the MCQ will carry 60 marks.

DU A Unit consists of 32 departments and 10 faculties. Only students who come from a Science background can sit for the admission test of the DU A Unit.

Students have to answer two other subjects alongside the compulsory ones. Thus, the written and MCQ exams will be graded in 100 marks. The GPAs in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams (including the 4th subject) will be multiplied by 2 to be scored in 20 marks. Based on these 120 marks, the merit list of DU will be made.

    DU A Unit consists of 34 departments and 3 faculties. Students who come from humanities backgrounds as well as students who want to change their discipline can sit for the admission test of the DU B Unit.

    For every wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted which will be coordinated subject-wise. Thus, the art and MCQ exams will be graded in 100 marks. The GPAs in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams (including 4th subject) will be multiplied by 2 to be scored in 20 marks. Based on these 120 marks, the merit list of DU will be made.

    Time Distribution of the DU Admission Test Exam:

    The allocated time for the examination is 1 hour and 30 minutes. For DU A, B, and C units, 45 minutes are allocated for the Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) exam and the remaining 45 minutes for the written exam.  For the DU F unit, 30 minutes are allocated for the Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) exam and the remaining 45 minutes for the written exam.

    Separate answer sheets will be provided for the MCQ and written exams. Once you complete the MCQ portion, you will be provided with the question and answer sheet of the written portion. You will be required to answer short questions in the written exam. 

     

    Passing Marks of the DU Admission Test Exam:

    The passing mark for the DU Admission MCQ exam is 24. Only if a student passes the MCQ exam, their written answer script will be evaluated, the passing mark for the written exam is 12. However, overall, a student has to acquire 40% in the 100 marks allocated to the MCQ and written exam to pass. Students passing the exam will be considered for the merit list.

    DU Admission Apply: Application Process for DU Admission

    Applying to the University of Dhaka can be easy with some general information. Go through the following simple steps to complete your DU application: 

    1. Visit the website of Dhaka University https://admission.eis.du.ac.bd. To register, type in the exam rolls and boards of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams. 
    2. To apply to the University of Dhaka, you will be required to share information related to your Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams, present address, mobile number, and National Identity Cards of your parents (optional). 
    3. Choose any 1 out of Bangladesh’s 8 divisional capitals as your exam center. 
    4. You will need a scanned photograph (Format: jpg, Size: 30 – 200KB, Width: 360-540px, Height: 540-720px).
    5. You will require a mobile connection of Teletalk, Robi, Airtel, or Banglalink to send the SMS. 
    6. You can complete the payment process by sending the application fee instantly online ((VISA /Mastercard/ American Express Debit or Credit Card, Mobile banking or Online banking), or pay in 4 state-owned banks (Sonali Bank, Janata Bank, Agrani Bank, or Rupali Bank) within the time limit. 

    Equivalence Application

    1. Students passing O-levels/A-levels/equivalent international curriculum must go to the “Equivalence Application” menu on the Dhaka University website https://admission.eis.du.ac.bd  and complete the payment online.
    2. Using the “Equivalence ID”, they can log in to the Dhaka University website to apply for the DU admission exam.

     

    DU Admission Application Fee:

    The application fee was BDT 350 up to session 2018-19. In the 2019-20 session, the DU application fee rose to BDT 450. In 2020-21, it became BDT 650. In 2021-22, there was another increase, finally becoming BDT 1000. 

     

    General Instructions for the DU Admission Test:

    The exam will take place in 8 divisional capitals including Dhaka. Using mobile phones, calculators, or any electronic devices in the examination hall is completely prohibited. 

     

    DU Admission Test Admit Card and Result:

    Knowing the seat plan and having the admit card with you during the exam are essential parts of the DU admission test. Dhaka University announces seat plans usually two to three days before the exam. It can be found online, as well as through media outlets. To know about the admission center you have been assigned to, visit the website https://admission.eis.du.ac.bd.

    To collect your admit card, visit the website, and log in with your specific details. The admit card option will be shown on the screen, and you have to download it and keep it with you. One can download the admit card up to half an hour before the admission test exam.
